YOUTH FOR THE ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM…

With the Department of Environment and National Resources, Science Club Advisers Association of the Philippines and the Kabataang Sama-Samang Maglilingkod, the DepEd-CSCA initiated the Youth for the Environment in Schools-Organization (YES-O) and the Youth for Environment Summer Camp (YES Camp). The program responds to the call on instilling environmental concern and positive action in the youth.

For the past four years, the YES-O of Malabon National High School (MNHS) with its environmental advocacy has been relentless in promoting an optimistic and environmental culture among students.

In 2005, the MNHS created YES-O, a youth task force to rationalize and strengthen the delivery of environmental student program. From that year, MNHS’ focal point for youth and student-related activities with regards to environment as it responds to the call for greater youth participation in nature and nation-building. YES-O links up with other school organization, youth groups and youth-serving organizations and is mandated to put extra-curricular participation in proper context for the environment – that is, to support, enhance, and enrich the environmental awareness.

While academics should be given priority for students to learn basic competencies, the YES-O MNHS advocates that learning should not just be limited to formal classroom instruction.

YES-O envisions an empowered Filipino youth who is culturally rooted, responsible, skilled, hardworking, refined, enterprising, preserving, public-spirited and imbued with moral values.

The creation of YES-O MNHS recognizes how environmental activities help cultivates environmental and social relationships, gain self-understanding, establish personal values, and further develop abilities and the intellect.
